    Saying the name 'Citron' brings to mind the pickles made from it and makes the tongue salivate. More than the taste of that pickle, the medicinal properties of citron are much more.

     Citron bears fruit on a small tree. Thorny. Grows up to ten feet tall. Its leaves are thick. It is rich in aromatic oil. The skin of the pods is also thick and rich in oil. This oil is rich in medicinal properties. It also gives a good smell.

    Citron is rich in Vitamin C and B. Contains calcium, iron and mineral nutrients. Its juice is sweet and sour.

Benefits of Citron:

  • Citron juice purifies the blood. Relieves rheumatism and stomach worms. 
  • It has the special name 'Bhojana Kasthuri' as it helps in digestion of food.

  • Some people get heartburn and stomach ache after eating. Vomiting occurs with sensation of food coming up. Due to increase in bile in the body, dizziness, fainting, chest pain, blood pressure etc. appear, for which Citron is the remedy. 
  • It is also the best medicine for pregnant women for vomiting, loss of appetite and fainting, mix the juice with water and drink it with sugar.
  • When there is excessive vomiting, the body loses water. Nutrients in the body will decrease. Drinking citron juice can replace lost nutrients. Vomiting will also stop.
  • If you want to regulate high blood pressure, take two teaspoons of juice, mix some jaggary and drink it with water. The potassium content in citron helps to regulate the blood flow in the heart.
  • If you rub the juice of citron on the dark spots and blackheads on the face, they will disappear and the face will become radiant. Citron juice is also used to get rid of dandruff.
  • Medicines made from Citron fruit are used for fainting, vomiting, heart diseases, physical weakness, loss of appetite etc.

Healthy recipes of Citron:

Here are some of the healthy recipes you can  take in your daily life.

Citron gravy:

  • Cut the citron into small pieces. Put the pan in the oven and heat up the fenugreek seeds and rice. Fry them.
  • Then add one teaspoon of ghee in a pan and add coriander seeds,  dried chilies and fry well. After it cools down, grind everything together.
  • Pour oil in a pan and season it with mustard and fry the cut citron pieces. When it gets fried well, dissolve tamarind in half liter of water and pour it in a pan and boil it well.
  • When the pieces are cooked, add the ground powder to it. Add salt and boil. At the end, mix papaya powder and jaggary powder.
  • It is a very flavorful gravy. Improves digestion. If pregnant women mix this broth with hot rice and eat it, stomach cramps and vomiting will stop.

Citron syrup:

  • Mix some water in a deep pan and dissolve the 600g of sugar. 
  • Add the citron juice, 50ml of ginger juice, 1 tablespoon of cardamom and 1/2 spoon of salt. 
  • Then pour it into the bottle.

Take two teaspoons daily and drink it mixed with some water. Vomiting, dizziness, lack of appetite, digestive disorders, stomach pain, chest pain, hand and foot irritation will be relieved. Pregnant women can take two teaspoons of this when vomiting.

Citron leaf powder:

Grind all the citron leaves, dry chilies, omam and salt in a mixer. Add lemon juice to the ground mixture and roll them into balls and use as required.

Citron leaf powder can be mixed with rice and eaten. It stimulates appetite and improves digestion.

Citron rice:

  • Heat oil in a pan and fry mustard seeds, chickpeas, urad dal etc. Add turmeric powder, asparagus powder, curry leaf and season it.
  • Add salt to the citron juice. Mix the seasoned ingredients and citron juice in the cooked rice and stir well. It is a sweet-smelling Citron rice.

Some people experience nausea and vomiting. Abdominal pain also occurs. People suffering from these should prepare and eat this rice. It is perfect for lunch.
